Every year the same question, "What are you giving up for Lent?" Over the years, I've given up soda, sugar, carbs, exercise (ok, that lasted for 12 years...it was a long Lent!) and other stuff that was designed to help me be more focused on my spiritual journey and better connect with my desire to follow Jesus. I guess my main issue has always been that I don't like giving stuff up. Now before you lecture me, I know it's supposed to be something that you'll miss so it won't be easy. A colleague of mine joked that he was giving up eggplant and okra. That I can do. The others are more difficult. This year I've made the decision not to give up anything. Instead, I will be taking on a discipline. This will really test me and I wonder even now if I'm up to the task. I will be blogging my way through Lent. If you know me, you know I hate to journal which may be part of my chronic inability to blog regularly. It's never been my thing. Yet, as I reflect on how this will impact my journey as a disciple, I believe it may be the best thing for me. It will be a discipline. And it will be public which means you'll know how well I do. So here we go. Blog post #1 of 40 in the books. May your Lenten journey bring you closer to Jesus.
Peace,
Philip

What a coincidence. I decided to take on the discipline of action. I am years out of the habit of doing what needs done when I see it. My to do lists are pages and pages long. Good to read that I'm not the only one adding something for Lent. I felt like such an oddball :-)
