Presbyterian Disaster Assistance (PDA) is supporting humanitarian relief efforts to help refugees and those internally displaced by fighting in Georgia.
The UN High Commissioner for Refugees estimates that the conflict has displaced around 100,000 people, with some having fled to other parts of Georgia while others have moved to North Ossetia in Russia.
PDA said in an August 14 situation report that it is responding to the crisis in Georgia through Action by Churches Together (ACT) International, a Swiss-based alliance of churches and relief agencies.
ACT members, along with the Russian Orthodox Church and Hungarian Interchurch Aid, are working together to deliver assistance to the refugees and displaced persons.
Those wishing to respond to the crisis financially may do so by designating gifts for Europe, DR000134.
Donations may be sent through normal mission giving channels. Gifts by credit card can be made by calling PresbyTel at (800) 872-3283 or online.
